Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to https://www.higheredmilitary.com owned and operated by Internet Employment Linkage ("We", "Us", "HigherEdMilitary.com"). This privacy policy describes how Internet Employment Linkage collects and uses the personally identifiable information you provide on our website: https://www.higheredmilitary.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy applies to our data collection and privacy practices when we collect personal information through your use of the Site. It also describes the choices available to you regarding our use of your personally identifiable information and how you can access and update this information. This HigherEdMilitary.com Privacy Policy (the "Privacy Policy") is part of our Terms and Conditions of Use of HigherEdMilitary (the "Terms"). By accessing or using the Site in any manner, you also agree to be bound by the Terms. If you do not accept all of the terms and conditions contained in or incorporated by reference into the Terms, please do not use the Site.

If you have an unresolved privacy or data use concern that we have not addressed satisfactorily, please contact us at privacy@higheredmilitary.com.

Residents in the European Economic Area ("EEA"), Switzerland, United Kingdom ("UK"), California, Colorado, Connecticut, and Virginia should refer to the body of this Privacy Policy as well as the "Jurisdiction-Specific Notices" section below for additional information that may be applicable to them.

PRIVACY PHILOSOPHY

Internet Employment Linkage Inc., publisher of HigherEdMilitary.com, has created this Privacy Policy to demonstrate our firm commitment to keeping personally identifiable information private. This Privacy Policy describes our data collection policies, explains how you can choose how much information you provide us, and describes how we use the information you have shared. It is our intent to use this information to help further your success in seeking or filling a position in the field of higher education through the use of our Site.

THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND HOW WE USE IT

A. Aggregate Information. When you browse the Site and search for posted positions we gather general information about you and aggregate it, including general information about the number of users browsing the Site, the number of users who view certain posted positions, and how users navigate through our Site. We use this information to provide aggregated statistical feedback to the institutions posting positions on our Site, to publicize our Site and to further develop our Site to maximize the benefits realized by our users.

B. Personally Identifiable Information. HigherEdMilitary.com collects personally identifiable information when you register for a personal account through the Site and when you elect to receive information from us through job alerts, a newsletter or other similar "opt-in" services we may provide. "Opt-in" services are only offered when the user purposefully checks a box or another method of indicating their specific intention of being included for the service so provided. When you create a user ID and password, we collect your name, e-mail address, state and country of residence, academic/administrative focus, years in higher education and years of work experience. We may also request other information such as your ZIP Code, career level, highest degree earned, salary level and professional affiliations. Because this Site serves the military-connected higher education community, we also ask you whether you are a veteran or currently serving, your branch of service, whether you are a military spouse, and whether you have worked with veterans and for how long. Providing this information is optional and you can change or remove it at any time from your account profile. We use this information in the aggregate for demographic purposes. We may also use that information to e-mail you information about maintenance schedules, new institutional subscribers information, as well as special promotions and other general updates from HigherEdMilitary.com or third parties that may be relevant to you and your search for a position in higher education. HigherEdMilitary.com provides you with the opportunity to opt-out of these types of communications. If you choose to receive these types of communications at the time of registration or by opting in for a particular service, and later decide you no longer want to receive them, simply follow the opt-out procedures contained on the Site. WE DO NOT SELL ANY OF YOUR PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION WITH ANY THIRD PARTY. WE DO NOT SELL OR OTHERWISE SHARE ANY OF YOUR PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION WITH ANY THIRD PARTY OTHER THAN IS OUTLINED IN THIS PRIVACY POLICY.

If you create a job alert without registering for an account, we create an account record for you so that we can send you the alert and so that you can manage or cancel it later. That record holds your email address and the search criteria you chose. You can cancel a job alert at any time using the link in each alert email, or by contacting us at privacy@higheredmilitary.com.

We post customer testimonials on our Site which may contain personally identifiable information such as the customer's name. We do obtain the customer's consent prior to posting the testimonial to post their name along with their testimonial. If you wish to update or delete your testimonial, you can contact us at privacy@higheredmilitary.com.

C. Résumé Review Service. Our Site offers a free résumé and CV review provided by TopResume, a resume-writing service operated by Talent Inc. and a partner of HigherEdMilitary. This service is entirely optional and is offered only if you choose to use it.

If you upload a document for review, we collect the name and email address you enter on the upload form, the document you upload, and the IP address the upload came from. We send your name, your email address and the document itself to TopResume so that they can carry out the review and contact you with the results. Your document is also transmitted to a security scanning provider to be checked for malware before we store it, as described under "Service Providers That Process Your Information" below.

Please be aware that a résumé or CV usually contains a good deal more personal information than we ask for anywhere else on the Site — your address and telephone number, your full employment and education history, and whatever else you have chosen to include, which for our users may include details of military service. All of it is contained in the document we send to TopResume. Once TopResume receives your document, their use of it is governed by their own privacy policy rather than this one, and they may contact you about their paid services. If you would like us to delete a document you have uploaded, contact us at privacy@higheredmilitary.com.

D. Tracking Technologies. We and our partners use technologies such as cookies or similar technologies to analyze trends, administer the Site, track users' movements around the Site, and to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole. You can turn off the analytics cookies we use at any time in our cookie preference centre, reachable from the Cookie Policy, and if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal we treat that as a choice to turn them off. You can also control cookies at the individual browser level. For more information on each of these, please see our Cookie Policy.

As is true of most websites, we gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information may include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, and/or clickstream data. Analytics cookies are set when you arrive on our Site; turning them off in our preference centre stops us collecting analytics information about your browsing from that point onward, and blocking cookies in your browser is what prevents them being placed on your device at all.

E. Job Postings. Persons, whether as individuals or as employees of a business who use the Employer Section or the Single Posting Pages of the Site may be asked for their business email addresses, business address and phone, billing information, and a password. Although there is no cost to Job Seekers for using the services on the Site, Job Posters will be charged a fee for requested services. We use data collected from Job Posters to provide requested services.

F. Payments By Credit Card. We use an outside bank merchant account to verify credit card data so we can bill and account for products sold to Job Posters. This company does not retain, share, store or use credit card data for any other purposes.

PRIVACY RIGHTS

Certain jurisdictions have specific legal requirements and grant privacy rights with respect to personal information, and we will comply with restrictions and any requests you submit as required by applicable law. For example, you may have the right to: (1) obtain a copy of personal information we maintain about you in a portable format; (2) correct inaccuracies or incompletion in your personal information; or (3) request that personal information be deleted. You may also have the right to not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights. If you are a California, Colorado, Connecticut, or Virginia resident or an EEA, Switzerland, or UK resident, see our "Jurisdiction-Specific Notices" section below for additional information as to how to exercise rights under the laws of those jurisdictions. If you are located outside that jurisdiction and seek to exercise your rights under the law of another jurisdiction, please contact us by emailing privacy@higheredmilitary.com.

To help protect your privacy and maintain security, we will take steps to verify your identity before granting you access to the information. We may need to request specific information from you to help us confirm your identity. This is a security measure to ensure that personal information is not disclosed to any person who has no right to receive it. When you make a request, we may also contact you to ask you for further information in relation to your request to speed up our response and require you to follow procedures so that we can verify your identity (and the applicable jurisdiction). The verification steps we take may differ depending on your jurisdiction and the request. Where possible, we will attempt to match the information that you provide in your request to information we already have on file to verify your identity. If we are able to verify your request, we will process it. If we cannot verify your request, we may ask you for additional information to help us do so.

We will respond to your request within the time period required by applicable law. However, we may not always be able or required to comply with your request, in whole or in part, and we will notify you in that event.

If we no longer need to process Personal Information about you in order to provide our services or our Site, we will not maintain, acquire or process additional information in order to identify you for the purpose of responding to your request.

In some cases our ability to uphold these rights for you may depend upon our obligations to process Personal Information for security, safety, fraud prevention reasons, compliance with regulatory or legal requirements, or because processing is necessary to deliver the services you have requested. Where this is the case, we will inform you of specific details in response to your request.

DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION

In certain situations, Internet Employment Linkage may be required to disclose personal data in response to lawful requests by public authorities, including to meet law enforcement requirements.

Except as described in this Privacy Policy, we do not disclose information about your individual visits to our Site, or personally identifiable information that you provide, such as your name, e-mail address, faculty area, or professional associations to any outside parties. (We may disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, bankruptcy proceedings, or similar legal process; when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request).

If Internet Employment Linkage is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our Site of any change in ownership or uses of your personally identifiable information, as well as any choices you may have regarding your personally identifiable information.

We may also provide your personally identifiable information to companies that provide services to help us with our business activities such as offering customer service.

Service Providers That Process Your Information

We use a small number of outside providers to operate the Site. They act as our service providers (processors): they may use your information only to perform the service we have engaged them for, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes or to sell it. All of them process information in the United States.

  • Document security scanning. When you upload a résumé or other document, the contents of that file are transmitted to Scanii, a US-based scanning provider, to check it for malware before we store it.
  • Email delivery. We use SparkPost to send transactional and subscription email, including job alerts. This includes your email address and the content of the message sent to you.
  • Marketing email and campaign management. We use Mailchimp to manage marketing email audiences. This includes your email address and the profile information held for the audience you are part of.
  • Site analytics and tag management. We use Google Tag Manager, and Google reCAPTCHA to protect our forms. These may receive your IP address, device and cookie identifiers, and browsing activity on our Site.
  • Cookie consent and preference management. We use Ketch to present our cookie notice, record the choices you make about cookies, and apply them on later visits. This includes your IP address, the page you are viewing, and the preferences you set.

Separately from the service providers above, if you use the optional résumé review service described in section C, we send your name, your email address and the document you uploaded to TopResume, a résumé-writing service operated by Talent Inc. in the United States. TopResume uses that information to carry out your review and to contact you, including about their own paid services, under their own privacy policy. This happens only if you choose to use that service.

If you are located in the EEA, Switzerland, or the UK, your information will be transferred to the United States in the course of the processing described above. We rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers, including data processing agreements with standard contractual clauses where applicable. You can ask us about the safeguards for a specific transfer using the contact details below.

LINKS TO 3RD PARTY SITES

Our Site includes links to other websites whose privacy practices may differ from those of Internet Employment Linkage. If you submit personally identifiable information to any of those sites, your information is governed by their privacy policies. We encourage you to carefully read the privacy policy of any website you visit. In particular, when you apply for a position you will usually be sent to the employer's own website or application system, and anything you submit there is governed by that organisation's privacy policy rather than ours.

SOCIAL MEDIA WIDGETS

Our Site includes Social Media Widgets, such as the Share this button or interactive mini-programs that run on our Site. These Features may collect your IP address, which page you are visiting on our Site, and may set a cookie to enable the Feature to function properly. Social Media Features and Widgets are either hosted by a third party or hosted directly on our Site.

YOU CAN MODIFY YOUR INFORMATION AT ANY TIME

Upon request Internet Employment Linkage will provide you with information about whether we hold any of your personal information. HigherEdMilitary.com allows you to change, correct or remove your personally identifiable information from the Site at any time. To do so, simply log into your HigherEdMilitary account, go to your account profile, and you will find options for editing the information you have submitted. Alternatively, you may contact us, email us at privacy@higheredmilitary.com, or contact us by telephone or postal mail at the contact information listed below. We will respond to your request to access within the time period required by applicable law. We will retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

You may also opt-out of any communication by following the instructions included in each newsletter or communication or by contacting us. In addition, our Site provides users the opportunity to opt-out of receiving communications from us. Users may change this information any time and as often as necessary. HigherEdMilitary.com does reserve the right to send a one-time registration confirmation e-mail, and infrequent service messages to its customers to inform them of specific changes to HigherEdMilitary.com's services or special alerts, regardless of email contact opt-in status. Examples of such a special alert message, to the email address you supplied, would be notification of the impending closing of an account that is believed to be abandoned or the addition of important new features to an existing service.

Job Posters may update their account information and manage their job postings by logging into their account through the Post a Job section of our Site.

HOW LONG WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is open and we need it to provide you with our services.

If you ask us to remove your information, we do it as soon as we have verified your request — we do not hold your information for a further period first. Everything described in the next paragraph is deleted at that point.

If your account is simply closed and you have not asked us to erase anything, we keep it for a further six (6) months and then delete it on the same terms. Either way the deletion covers your job alerts, your saved jobs and saved articles, your job categories and the profile information you gave us, including anything you told us about your military service; and any résumé or CV you uploaded, the file itself as well as the record of it. We also remove your name, e-mail address and password from our records, and take you off every mailing list. We keep a minimal record that the account existed and when it was closed, together with the request itself where you made one, so that we are able to show the deletion was carried out.

If you uploaded a résumé or CV without creating an account, it is not attached to an account and so is not covered by the timetable above. We will delete it on request — contact us at privacy@higheredmilitary.com and tell us the e-mail address you used.

We may keep information for longer where we are required to by law, or where we need it to resolve a dispute or enforce our agreements. If you would like to know how long we hold a particular kind of information about you, contact us at privacy@higheredmilitary.com.

SECURITY MEASURES ARE IN PLACE

This Site has security measures in place designed to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information contained on our Site. During the subscription or registration process, you will have the option to provide a password for your account. Please be advised that you are ultimately responsible for the security of your HigherEdMilitary.com user ID and password. Please take care to store your HigherEdMilitary.com user ID separately from your account password, or better yet, choose a password that you do not need to write down at all.

The security of your personally identifiable information is important to us.

We follow generally accepted standards to protect the personally identifiable information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. However, no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. If you have any questions about security on our Site, you can contact us at privacy@higheredmilitary.com.

NO USE BY CHILDREN

This Site is not designed nor intended to be attractive to use by children under the age of 16. If you are under the age of 16, do not use the Site or use any interactive features of the Site. We do not knowingly or intentionally gather personal information about children who are under the age of 16. If a child under the age of 16 has provided us with personal information, a parent or guardian of that child may contact us to have the information deleted from our records. If you believe that we might have any information from a child under the age of 16, please contact us at privacy@higheredmilitary.com. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected the personal information of a child under 16 years old, or equivalent minimum age depending on jurisdiction, we will take steps to delete the information as soon as possible and cease the use of that information in accordance with applicable law.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

If we decide to change our Privacy Policy, we will post those changes to this privacy statement, the homepage, and other places we deem appropriate so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.

If, however, we are going to use users' personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection we will notify users via email prior to the change becoming effective. Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. However, if users have opted out of all communication with the Site, or deleted/deactivated their account, then they will not be contacted, nor will their personally identifiable information be used in this new manner. In addition, if we make any material changes in our privacy practices that do not affect user information already stored in our database, we will post a prominent notice on our Site notifying users of the change. In some cases where we post a notice we will also email users, who have opted to receive communications from us, notifying them of the changes in our privacy practices.

If, at any time, you have questions or concerns about HigherEdMilitary.com's Privacy Policy, please feel free to email us at privacy@higheredmilitary.com or if you would like to remove your information, please use our webform at www.higheredmilitary.com/optout.

THANK YOU FOR USING HIGHEREDMILITARY.COM.

Because we do not sell or share your personal information, there is no sale for you to opt out of. If what you would like to do is stop us measuring your visits, you can turn off our analytics cookies at any time in our cookie preference centre, and we honor the Global Privacy Control signal if your browser sends one. Our Cookie Policy explains both.
