Job Description

The Clinical Director of Dental Medicine provides strategic and operational leadership for the clinical enterprise of LMU College of Dental Medicine. This individual is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care and overseeing the day-to-day operations, compliance, and effectiveness of the clinical education environment. The Clinical Director works closely with faculty, staff, and students to maintain excellence in clinical teaching and patient care while supporting the mission of serving rural and underserved populations.

Required Qualifications

DDS/DMD degree from a CODA-accredited institution. Active dental license or eligibility for licensure in the state of Tennessee. Minimum of 10 years of experience in dental clinical practice and/or academic clinical administration. Demonstrated leadership and management experience in a clinical setting. Knowledge of accreditation standards, clinical compliance, and quality improvement processes

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in an academic dental institution. Experience with clinical EHR systems Experience with faculty calibration, student remediation, or clinic design

Job Duties
  • Key Responsibilities: Clinical Operations & Patient Care
  • Working with and mentoring students on the clinic floor with patient care.
  • Oversee daily operations of dental clinics, ensuring efficient, safe, and ethical delivery of care.
  • Monitor clinical workflows, chair utilization, and scheduling systems to optimize patient access and student experiences.
  • Ensure all clinical policies and procedures comply with CODA standards, HIPAA, OSHA, and institutional regulations
  • Collaborate with the Infection Control Officer and Facilities Team to maintain a safe and aseptic clinical environment.
  • Clinical Education & Faculty Mentorship
  • Provide leadership in calibration and development of clinical faculty to ensure consistency in teaching and assessment.
  • Mentor clinical faculty in becoming effective team leaders in clinical care and in guiding students on the clinic floor
  • Support the design and implementation of clinical competencies, milestones, and evaluations in coordination with academic leadership
  • Monitor student progress and clinical productivity; participate in student remediation and disciplinary processes as needed
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for faculty and students regarding clinical decision-making and professional development.
  • Administration & Strategic Planning
  • Participate in strategic planning and budgeting for clinical services, facilities expansion, and equipment upgrades.
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of clinical faculty and staff.
  • Collaborate with the EHR and data analytics teams to improve reporting, outcomes tracking, and quality assurance
  • Lead initiatives that support interprofessional education and integrated care.
  • Community Engagement & Outreach
  • Foster partnerships with external clinical sites and community partners to support off-site rotations and community-based experiences as needed
  • Represent LMU-CDM in public health initiatives and oral healthcare advocacy at the local and state level.
