Summary of Position

The Emergency Medical Services Faculty is a full-time, 9-month/166-day position. The faculty member is responsible for teaching 15 credits each fall and spring semester. Courses may be taught using both traditional and non-traditional delivery methods, including face-to-face, online, computer-aided, distance learning, self-paced, and interdisciplinary. Faculty may need to teach at any RRCC campus and at a variety of times (days, evenings, and some weekends).

The faculty member develops and evaluates curricula, ensures alignment with community needs and regulatory requirements, documents curriculum changes based on assessments, implements retention strategies, and integrates technology into coursework. Additional responsibilities involve maintaining office hours, assisting with departmental duties, providing academic advising to students, participating in college events, serving on committees, and representing the college in the community. Professional development is a key component of the role, with opportunities for growth to support both teaching and service functions aligned with the college's goals.

  • Knowledge and proficiency in state and national EMS regulatory requirements and education standards for all provider levels
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or higher from an accredited institution in Emergency Medicine, Education, Nursing, Healthcare, Biology, Fire Science, or a related field with no less than 30 credit hours of coursework specific to healthcare or emergency services.
    • Tested experience may be used in lieu of the degree requirement on a case-by-case basis.
  • Current state or NREMT certification as a Paramedic or RN (state certification required within 3 months of hire).
  • Possess or be eligible for a post-secondary CTE credential. Minimum of 4,000 hours paid, non-teaching occupational experience within the last 7 years.
    • **Current teachers applying to teach RRCC campus-based, online, or concurrent enrollment CTE courses may include non-teaching occupational hours that are older than the 7-year requirement if they have the required degree (and license/certifications as listed) and a minimum of 3 years full-time teaching experience in the discipline/program or 6 years part-time teaching experience in the discipline/program.
  • Experience teaching and/or training various subjects within the discipline.
  • Actively seek opportunities for professional growth by embracing challenges, learning from feedback, engaging in professional development, and applying new strategies to improve your practice.
  • Demonstrated commitment working with and supporting students from diverse populations, which may include but are not limited to, historically marginalized populations such as people of color, LGBTQ+ community members, veterans, first generation graduates, and people with disabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree or Master's degree from an accredited academic institution in Emergency Medicine, Paramedicine, Education, Nursing, Healthcare, Biology, Fire Science, or a closely related field with no less than 30 credit hours of coursework specific to healthcare or emergency services.
  • Current Colorado Paramedic or RN, or ability to gain certification/licensure within 3 months of employment.
  • Current Colorado CTE credential with endorsements appropriate for EMS.
  • Completion of the Colorado State EMS Instructor courses.
  • Current ACLS, PALS, and CPR instructor certifications.
  • At least one semester experience as an EMS educator in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical setting.
  • At least 5 years of experience as an active Paramedic or ED RN in the patient care setting (3 or more years if the candidate possesses a Bachelor's degree or higher).
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to effective teaching at the community college and an understanding of its philosophy, role and mission.
  • Experience with program assessment, strategic planning, and grant funded initiatives.
  • Proficient in curriculum development, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and academic advising.
Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
  • Frequently moves, positions, and transports office, lab, and classroom materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • This is largely an active role. This position operates in an office, lab, and classroom environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Advertised Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $78,000, commensurate with education and experience. This salary is based on 166 contract days. The projected start date for this position is August 1, 2026. This is a full-time, 9-month, FLSA exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System. Faculty may have the option to teach additional course overloads in accordance with college policies and procedures for additional compensation.
