Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Criminal Justice Program at Fairmont State University (FSU) is currently recruiting applicants for an Assistant Professor for the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program for a Fall 2026 appointment. The individual in this position will teach undergraduate classes face-to-face and online in a nine-month term position. The B.S. program is well established and respected, representing one of the largest majors on campus.

The ideal candidate will be able to teach a variety of courses in the Criminal Justice major. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence and enthusiasm in teaching, advising, and student advocacy; ability to work cooperatively and productively with faculty, staff and students; commitment to productivity and professional development; ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning; and active participation in department, college and community service. The expectation for teaching will include law enforcement classes such as Introduction to Criminal Justice, Police Operations, Analysis of Police Operations, and Firearms. Special topics courses may be available depending on the experience and interest of the candidate.

The ideal candidate must also have at least five years' professional experience in law enforcement.

Minimum Required Education

1. A Master's degree in criminal justice; and
2. Professional certification appropriate to their assigned teaching; and
3. Significant law enforcement experience (at least five years) relevant to their assigned teaching load; and
4. Substantial documented successful teaching experience in the area of law enforcement.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred education include a Ph.D. or a close to completion ABD, in Criminal Justice, Criminology or closely related discipline. Candidates with a J.D. and equivalent field and professional experience will also be considered.
