Visiting Assistant Professor in Linguistics

Description:
Boston College seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor in Linguistics for the academic year 2026-2027, renewable for a second year. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment in Linguistics, an academic unit housed within the Department of Eastern, Slavic, and German Studies. The position entails a 2/3 teaching load, beginning July 1, 2026.
Courses to be taught include:
- A single-semester introduction to Linguistics, our gateway course into the Linguistics major and minor
- Two upper-division courses designed for Linguistics majors and minors, in any two of these subareas:
Field Methods
Phonetics and Phonology
Syntax (a second-semester course)
Semantics
Morphology
- Two courses that would enroll both early majors / minors in Linguistics alongside students with no background in the field. Some plausible topics include (but are not limited to) constructed languages; language and the law; bilingualism; corpus linguistics; introduction to computational linguistics; the history and structure of a specific language or language family.
Qualifications:
PhD in Linguistics in hand
Excellence and breadth in teaching
Experience working with both Linguistics majors and non-Linguistics majors
