The Outdoor Adventure, Parks and Recreation program at Salt Lake Community College is seeking skilled adjunct field instructors currently working as Ski Lift/Ropeway Maintenance Technicians at Utah ski resorts to supervise and evaluate students in the Ski Lift Maintenance Technician Level I program. This position and the program it supports is funded by Talent Ready Utah, a workforce initiative of the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE), with additional support from Ski Utah and related ski resorts.
This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.
This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have experience leading ski lift/ropeway maintenance teams and the ability to deliver course curriculum as well as teach, coach, and evaluate students in areas related to risk management, ropeway electrical and mechanical system maintenance and repair, ropeway regulatory and inspection standards, ski lift/ropeway operations, and related topics. Adjunct Field Instructors will work with program coordinators and lead instructors to help students complete weekly on-the-job field homework assignments as well as assess student performance and progress.
Adjunct field instructors may be assigned to any SLCC location or offsite location and may work flexible schedules to facilitate collaboration with faculty and industry partners. The developed curriculum will be implemented during summer semester.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Computer literacy related to email, Microsoft programs, and online learning management systems. Ability to use course materials in field and on the job settings. Strong knowledge of Ski Lift/Ropeway maintenance techniques and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to work well with others and productively contribute to a team. Excellent communication skills with people from many different backgrounds and life experiences. Proven track record of building positive relationships across all areas of the College community. Experience creating accessible learning experiences for students of all abilities and backgrounds. Commitment to fostering a welcoming environment where all individuals can thrive and contribute meaningfully. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
This position also requires sufficient knowledge of Ski Lift/Ropeway Technician work to deliver accurate and comprehensive curriculum. This includes understanding of working in various weather conditions, equipment requirements, and physically navigating Ski Lift/Ropeway towers and equipment. This position also requires extensive knowledge of relevant tools, maintenance and repair procedures, and risk management protocols.
All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for on-line only courses.
You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/ Instructor on a contract-to-contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment.
Your employment may be terminated At Will at any time.
You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Three to seven years of experience leading Ski Lift/Ropeway maintenance and technician teams.
2. Evidence of completing relevant certifications and/or training in Ski Lift/Ropeway Maintenance.
3. Teaching experience in an applied setting, mentoring junior Ski Lift/Ropeway technicians.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
1. More than 7 years leading Ski Lift/Ropeway Maintenance Technician teams.
2. Experience teaching in a high school, college/university, or vocational setting.
3. A bachelor's degree (or higher) in any field or equivalent technical education/training.
4. Experience delivering training curriculum for technical fields.
5. Familiarity with competency-based education models.
