Position Highlights

The Department of Surgery is seeking a Research Technician to assist Dr. Craig Weinkauf with a research project titled Carotid Artery Atherosclerosis Contributions to Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Disease Risk. The project involves working with patients and utilizing advanced MRI techniques, as well as other brain and vascular imaging modalities.

The applicant should possess excellent people skills and be highly self-motivated and hardworking. Preference will be given to applicants with an undergraduate degree in English, Psychology, or a scientific field, prior experience working with adults over 50 years old, and those looking to work on this research project for 2 years or more.

Duties & Responsibilities

Perform Experiments:

  • Perform set up of research experiments and tests and conducts these experiments according to defined protocols, while seeking guidance from the Pl and other lab members, as needed.
  • Become familiar with study, applicable background research, laboratory protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with lab procedures, protocols, and quality control.

Equipment:

  • Set up lab equipment and operate surgical devices following established instruction and procedures.
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot scientific apparatuses, equipment and instruments specific to assignment. Clean, sterilize, and maintain lab equipment.

Data collection and analysis:

  • Assist with research sample collection and specimen preparation.
  • Maintain logs, records, notes, data, and spreadsheets to document the results of experiments, compiling research data and facilitating data analysis.

Administrative:

  • Provide administrative support to research projects (ordering supplies, maintain inventory, scanning, photocopies, labeling, filing, record keeping, etc.)
  • Participate in lab meetings and other scientific discussions.

  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
