Essential Job Duties:
The primary purpose of this position is to advance the major implementation, research, and program evaluation components of Farm to Classroom: An immersive plant systems agriculture training program for teachers from the mountains to the sea. This innovative initiative provides world-class professional development, including a transformative travel experience, to help selected North Carolina teachers integrate agriculture into their biology, environmental science, and other curricula. The ultimate goal will be a new model for teacher professional development that elevates students' knowledge in food and agricultural sciences.
The successful candidate will conduct social sciences research in the initiative and serve in every component: teacher recruitment, professional development, communications, and program evaluation. Strong oral and written communication skills and a desire to extend skills in educational research and program evaluation are essential.
The postdoctoral research scholar will conduct innovative social sciences research, analyze qualitative and quantitative data sets, and disseminate findings through publications. The postdoctoral research scholar will maintain appropriate records regarding Farm to Classroom: An immersive plant systems agriculture training program for teachers from the mountains to the sea and competitive grant proposals. This career opportunity is suited to a motivated scholar with quantitative and qualitative social sciences research experience who seeks to advance extension and research with the guidance of accomplished supervisor(s) and mentor(s).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze data, interpret findings, and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and scholarly reports, including for Farm to Classroom: An immersive plant systems agriculture training program for teachers from the mountains to the sea.
- Contribute to competitive grant proposals, especially in support of the Career Pathways Lab and NC State Extension Grow For It initiatives.
- Collaborate in the coordination of research with mentor(s).
- Coordinate multiple, concurrent assignments in extension, research, and program evaluation.
- Maintain detailed research records, data sets, and methodological documentation.
- Collaborate with graduate students, faculty, and project personnel to conduct programming, including participating in research meetings, progress updates, and planning.
- Submit research and scholarly publications, in consultation with their mentor(s).
- Complete all other duties as assigned.
Departmental Required Skills:
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
- Ability to clearly and concisely present scientific data both orally and in writing.
- Ability to design experiments, conduct independent research, and lead the preparation of manuscripts.
- Earned doctoral degree in Agricultural and Extension Education, Educational Psychology and Research, or a related field within the past five years prior to appointment.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
- Quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, and experience with mixed methods research are preferred.
