Essential Job Duties:
The Wilson College of Textiles, in collaboration with the NSF Textile Innovation Engine, is seeking an exceptional postdoctoral research scholar to participate in our Convergence initiative. This initiative aims to accelerate innovation and commercialization by establishing a network across NC of researchers using fibrous materials for biomedical applications, especially in the area of wound healing. The person filling this position will work closely with PI Dr. Jessica Gluck in two main efforts: 1) facilitating collaborative research in the field of wound healing and 2) assisting outreach efforts in the form of an internship program.
50% of the time will be dedicated to traditional research efforts in regenerative medicine using biomedical textiles with a special focus on skin tissue engineering. These duties will include:
- Laboratory research including mammalian cell culture, biomaterials fabrication (specifically fibrous materials), materials characterization
- Analyze data, interpret finds, and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and scholarly reports
- Contribute to competitive grant proposals
- Collaborate in the coordination of research with mentors
- Assist in the development of a collaborative network of biomedical textile/fibrous biomaterials
- researchers in NC
- Coordinate multiple, concurrent projects
- Maintain detailed research records, data sets, methodologies
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students
- Submit research and scholarly publications in collaborations with mentor
- Assist in general maintenance and running of the laboratory
- Complete all other duties as assigned
- Identify partners (both in industry and academics to host undergraduate students for summer research placements
- Recruit student applicants,
- Facilitate summer research efforts and additional efforts to facilitate the inaugural internship cohort in the summer of 2027
- Collaborate closely with the NSF RegenMed Engine to coordinate efforts
- Coordinate with mentor (Dr. Gluck)
- Participate in reporting efforts to the NSF Textile Innovation Engine as well as contributing to the NSF annual reporting
- Complete all other duties as assigned
Departmental Required Skills:
- PhD in tissue engineering related field
- Ability to work independently and within a group
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to lift up 15-20 lbs and work in a tissue culture hood
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
- Pluripotent stem cell culture maintenance and differentiation
- Molecular biology analysis (ICC/IHC, genetic analysis, proliferation assays, biomaterials fabrication and characterization
- Previous teaching experience
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organization skills
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks
- Strong scientific communication skills
- Excellent teamwork and problem solving skills
- Independence as a researcher
