The Media Innovation Center (MIC) at State University of New York at Old Westbury is a multimedia production hub that offers students and faculty opportunities to get hands on experience producing a variety of media, from TV news and entertainment shows to documentary videos and immersive VR content. Our programming showcases our college's vibrant culture, scholarship and creativity and engages with a wide range of local, national and global issues. The Instructional Support Assistant (ISA) supports the activities of the MIC. This is a part-time (18.75 hours per week) twelve (12) month position. The ISA reports to the MIC Manager. This position is primarily scheduled during late afternoon and early evening hours in order to support student access to the Media Innovation Center beyond the standard workday. During the academic semester, the anticipated schedule is approximately Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., totaling 18.75 hours per week. The ISA will help maintain an active, supportive, and supervised environment for students working in the facility and will be responsible for securing and locking the MIC at the close of each shift. During winter and summer breaks, scheduling may be adjusted to allow for greater overlap with the MIC Facility Manager and to support operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide access to facilities and oversee operations in the absence of the MIC Manager.
  • Provide MIC Manager with general assistance in day-to-day and administrative operations.
  • Provide regular TV studio and field equipment training.

Assist in the training and supervision of interns for:

  • Equipment check-in/out and preparation of equipment for production class workshops.
  • Studio organization and maintenance.
  • Equipment testing and troubleshooting.
  • Inventory updates.
  • Social media updates.
  • Multimedia Production and Post-Production.

Mentor interns and students in and troubleshoot issues related to:

  • Field video and audio production, including equipment,
  • Editing and post production, including software,
  • Multimedia production and software,
  • Supervise and support student crews during TV or field shoots, as needed.

Provide limited support for Faculty teaching in the Media Innovation Center.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree (or foreign equivalent) in related field OR two (2) years of related
  • Working knowledge in the use of a video camera.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Editing Software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in related field.
  • Two (2) years of related experience in media support and production.
  • TV studio control room experience.
  • TV Camera experience.
  • Studio lighting experience.
  • Studio audio recording experience.

Additional Information:

Salary range: up to $22,686.00 per year - commensurate with education and experience.
