Position Summary

Scene Shop Supervisor

The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance

Full-Time; 10-month renewable Professional Staff position

Primary Responsibilities

Each year, between July 15th and May 15th:
  • Manage the daily operations of the scene shop
  • Oversee and participate in construction of scenery, stage rigging, sound engineering, electrics, scene painting, and welding
  • Coordinate or supervise coordination of properties for all main stage productions
  • Assist in planning and organizing projects
  • Conduct routine general maintenance, provide upkeep of shop machinery, and provide inventory management
  • Assist with scenery installations and strikes of all conservatory productions
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and 7 years of professional experience as a carpenter and/or stagehand OR Bachelor's Degree and significant professional experience as a carpenter and /or stagehand
  • Ability to read construction drawings and interpret scene designers' works
  • Demonstrated rigging skills
  • Demonstrated electrical and sound skills
  • Experience in properties
  • Experience in various techniques of scene painting
  • Experience or desire to learn welding
  • Ability to follow proper usage of equipment and enforce safety standards
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills
  • Excellent communication skills with ability and willingness to train students of various levels of proficiency
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong collaboration skills, working with professional staff and faculty
  • Willingness to work irregular and flexible hours
  • Ability to adhere to strict production schedule and meet deadlines
