Description

Under the direct supervision of the Breath Alcohol Program Manager and funded via the Traffic and Highway Safety grant, this role is responsible for the following core duties:

1. Laboratory Coordination: Oversee all daily operations, maintenance and service functions of the Breath Alcohol Instrument Service and Repair Laboratory.

1. Instruction and Training: Serve as instructor for Breath Alcohol Instrument training program.

1. Grant Administration: Assist with the implementation, compliance, and reporting activities of the annual Impaired Driving Countermeasures grant.

Examples of Duties

Laboratory Coordination: Oversee all daily operations, maintenance and service functions of the Breath Alcohol Instrument Service and Repair Laboratory - 70%

• Maintain technical proficiency, repair knowledge and manufacture/state certifications for all approved breath alcohol instrumentation.
• Participate and complete all required certification and re-certification courses to remain credentialed for this position.
• Troubleshoot, service, repair, and upgrade breath alcohol instruments for all State law enforcement and regulatory agencies as needed or requested.
• Serve as subject matter expert for prosecutors and state officials on breath alcohol instrumentation when requested.
• Assist with the placement and monitoring of all field breath alcohol instruments.

Instruction and Training: Serve as instructor for Breath Alcohol Instrument training program - 20%

• Teach any alcohol impaired driving countermeasures training or awareness programs and courses including, but not limited to: Type 2 Supervisor, Type 3 Operator, instrument certification and updates.

Grant Administration: Assist with the implementation, compliance, and reporting activities of the annual Impaired Driving Countermeasures grant - 10%

• Assist the Program Manager and other Impaired Driving Countermeasures (IDC) staff carrying out the annual IDC grant duties.

Budget Responsibility: - 10%

• Monitor budget
• Amount of sign-off authority: $1,000

Typical Qualifications

Education:
Education may be substituted for experience, or experience may be substituted for education. Note that equivalencies are based on the following: AA or 60 credit hours = 2 years experience; BA/BS or 120 credit hours = 4 years experience; MA/MS = 6 years experience.

• High School diploma or equivalent: required
• Bachelor's in Criminal Justice, Electronics, Chemistry or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

• Two years of law enforcement experience preferred.
• Experience with breath alcohol instrumentation preferred.
• Experience in adult teaching techniques and application, preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Missouri Type-II Supervisor certified, preferred, or within the first 12 months of hire.
• Certified training on all MO-approved breath alcohol instruments, preferred or obtained within the first 18 months of hire.
• Instructor development certification, preferred or obtained within the first 24 months of hire.
• Certified in Indiana University's Borkenstein: Alcohol and Highway Safety course, preferred or obtained within 24 months of hire.

Supplemental Information

Special Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:

• Knowledge of electronic components and testing/troubleshooting equipment, preferred
• Knowledge of breath alcohol testing laws, preferred

Environmental Factors:

• Excessive standing and/or walking, Exposure to fumes and/or chemicals.

Physical Factors:

• Lift 80 lbs.
