Job Description Summary:
The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hospital Medicine at the University of Kansas School of MedicineâEUR"Wichita is seeking a candidate for a full-time faculty position to join an existing team of pediatric hospital medicine physicians. Candidates will have earned a D.O., M.D., or equivalent and be board certified or board eligible in Pediatrics. The position offers an exciting opportunity to practice evidence-based medicine in a rapidly growing multidisciplinary Pediatric Hospital Medicine program in affiliation with our primary clinical partner, Wesley Children's Hospital. A successful candidate must have an interest in practicing both pediatric and newborn medicine in an academic program. The candidate will integrate with the inpatient teams, all pediatric subspecialties, residents and medical students.

The University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita (KUSM-W) Department of Pediatrics is a robust, comprehensive and thriving group of dedicated generalist, specialist, hospitalist and newborn providers delivering pediatric clinical care, education, scholarship and advocacy as part of our medical school campus, one of three in the University of Kansas system. The Wichita campus serves over 200 medical students and boasts state of the art technical capabilities including a new simulation center. The KUSM-W Department of Pediatrics collaborates extensively in the community and region to provide general and tertiary care to the children and families in the Western two-thirds of the state.

Wichita, Kansas is located in the heart of America and is the largest city in Kansas. It has small town friendliness along with all the amenities of a large city including a variety of restaurants and entertainment, minor league baseball and hockey teams, great shopping, and close proximity to the country. Job Description:

Job Duties:

Patient Care: 90%
  • Provide direct patient care for hospitalized infants, children, and adolescents on pediatric hospital floor.
  • Provide direct patient care for inpatient newborn patients in both well newborn and level 2 nursery
  • Work in conjunction with pediatric subspecialists, including anesthesia, cardiology, critical care, endocrinology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, neurology, nephrology, oncology, orthopedics, radiology, and surgery, to provide effective and co-managed inpatient and inpatient newborn care.
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety activities to improve efficiency and clinical care for patients.
  • Participation in daytime, swing, and night shift in-house coverage.
  • Equitable participation in holiday, weekend, and call coverage.
  • Maintain board certification in pediatrics.
Education/Scholarly: 10%
  • Educate, supervise, and participate in the evaluation process of residents, medical students, and other allied health trainees in pediatric hospital medicine and newborn care.
  • Attend and actively participate in division and departmental meetings.
  • Serve on selected departmental and hospital committees as requested by the director.

Required Qualifications:

Education: MD or DO Degree or foreign degree equivalent

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

Licenses/Certifications:
  • Board eligible or certified in Pediatrics
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the state of Kansas
Preferred Qualifications:

Work Experience:
  • Previous experience teaching in an academic setting
Skills:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the teaching of students and residents
  • Demonstrated proficiency in clinical practice Proficiency in Spanish
  • Ability to work cooperatively, collegially, and professionally within a multiĆ¢EUR?disciplinary team environment
