Job Summary
This position will be based on our campus in Cambridge, MA. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic this position will be remote until further notice.

We are seeking a Digital Content Strategist on the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Development Communications team within Harvard Alumni Affairs and Development.

Alumni Affairs and Development (AA&D) comprises the University Development Office (UDO), Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Development, AA&D Resources, and the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA). There is a unique relationship between the University and the FAS fundraising operations, resulting from a long history in which University fundraising ultimately grew out of College fundraising.

Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Development
FAS Development is responsible for the fundraising efforts supporting the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, including Harvard College, the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. FAS Development staff work with Harvard College donors, alumni, parents, and friends who provide critical support for the FAS and often for other parts of the University.

This full-time position within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Development Communications team reports to the Associate Director of Messaging and Content Strategy and is primarily responsible for managing digital communication activities, including analyzing engagement analytics across audiences and channels; developing and executing web and social media content strategy, including social media; and managing email engagement initiatives and special digital projects in support of FAS fundraising efforts.

This includes creating and disseminating compelling messaging, defining effective segmentation strategies, and aligning digital engagement plans with the goals of FAS Development. This position requires a strong command of digital marketing principles, a high level of organization, and a mastery of digital channels. Candidates should also have strong written communication skills and a working knowledge of how to craft engaging messages for various digital channels.

Job-Specific Responsibilities
Digital Content Strategy, Coordination, and Execution
  • Develops and executes on content strategy across digital channels, including email, web, and social media
  • Manages content strategy and creates content for FAS Development web properties, including alumni.harvard.edu pages, intranet resources, and pages specifically related to fundraising priorities
  • Maintains social media pages; serves as team expert on email and social media best practices, with strong hands-on experience working with digital marketing platforms
  • Ensures content is timely, relevant, and coordinated with the larger FAS Development content strategy while engaging the Harvard College and GSAS alumni audience and driving brand awareness
  • Builds relationships and collaborates with colleagues across AA&D and Harvard to ensure full and complementary digital coverage
  • Manages and cultivates the Crimson Connect social media ambassador program with colleagues in the Harvard Alumni Association
Digital Project Management and Analysis
  • Manages digital projects, including internal and external e-mail newsletters, microsites, and intranet resources; convenes and leads cross-functional project teams, develops and executes communications strategies, and analyzes data as needed; ensures projects meet stated outcomes and are in alignment with FAS fundraising priorities
  • Monitors and evaluates analytics related to audience-specific marketing strategies and recommends adjustments and refinements
Content Creation and Short-Form Writing
  • Develops and posts social media content; develops and maintains social media editorial calendar in alignment with other AA&D and FAS units
  • Assists with additional short-form writing assignments, including event communication marketing suites, as needed

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum three years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to work and communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders and partners
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a compelling, distinct, and cohesive organizational voice through digital content creation across multiple platforms

  • Ability to conduct independent research and monitor developments to inform writing and content strategy
  • Creativity and intellectual curiosity, as well as initiative, strategic thinking, and flexibility

  • Definite abilities to innovate, think strategically and conceptually, and display good, sound judgment with a sense of humor
  • Hands-on experience managing digital, social, and email platforms preferred
