Job-Specific Responsibilities
MBA Admissions and Financial Aid seeks an Assistant Director, MBA Operations to oversee Enrollment Systems and Business Intelligence to support the Harvard Business School (HBS) mission. Reporting to Director, Operations MBA Admissions and Financial Aid, the Assistant Director will work in close collaboration with colleagues from Admissions, Financial Aid and MBA IT on a range of technical and analytical projects to improve departmental strategy and operations. In addition to strong technical and business analytics skills, we seek someone with good judgment who communicates well and is excited to play a key role on a fun, high-performing team.

Enrollment Systems
  • Oversee the technical and analytical infrastructure across MBA Admissions and Financial Aid team including portfolio of Enrollment Systems (e.g. Technolutions Slate, PowerFaids and Blackbaud).
  • Design and maintain custom online portals for prospects, applicants and enrolled students.
  • Manage self-serve data tools for Outreach, Evaluation, Yield and Financial Aid teams
  • Support event management, prospect management, communications, workflow maintenance and data uploads in Slate
  • Ensure data security and implement business processes involving data accuracy, confidentiality, and retention
  • Manage the interaction of database products from different vendors, ensuring accurate data feeds between systems
  • Collaborate with MBA and HBS IT departments
Business Intelligence
  • Act as key analyst and thought partner to senior leaders on projects and strategic analyses related to Admissions, Financial Aid, and School priorities
  • Share findings to stakeholders in compelling written, visual and verbal communication
  • Develop and maintain suite of Tableau dashboards
  • Work with data owners to ensure data is collected, organized and utilized effectively across various systems
  • Query, clean and refine datasets in preparation for ad-hoc analysis
  • Collaborate with MBA Institutional Research
Team (ongoing)
  • Lead technical training sessions for Admissions and Financial Aid
  • Help with team-wide events and activities such as Admitted Students Welcome, Interview Days, yield activities, conference attendance, internal team-building, outreach, etc.
  • Contribute to collaborative culture with willingness to both teach and learn from colleagues
  • Attend weekly Ops team meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Typical Core Duties
  • Recruit, evaluate, and make recommendations on the selection of candidates for admission
  • Counsel and advise prospective students regarding application process, degree programs and other inquiries; lead information and recruitment sessions
  • Plan and manage and execute, domestic and international applicants; develop marketing strategies to attract applicants
  • Develop presentations designed to promote the institution and attract potential students
  • Assist in planning and implementing recruitment strategy to attract applicants
  • Develop and analyze admissions reports and statistics; provide reports to management to assist with setting the strategic direction of the admissions function
  • Develop relationships with university personnel, professional organizations, students, parents, alumni and secondary school staff
  • Represent university as the spokesperson at high level admissions events and/or functions
  • Ensure compliance with university admissions policies and procedures and applicable legal rules and regulations with respect to students' rights to privacy
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills required
  • Must have technical experience with data analytics tools and techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as good judgment
Additional Skills, Experience, Credentials preferred for this position:
  • Understanding of higher education admissions process is a plus. 
  • Experience with Technolutions Slate strongly preferred
  • Experience writing SQL queries for analytical, reporting, and ETL purposes strongly preferred
  • Understanding of Python, Tableau, statistical packages (R, STATA) preferred
  • Excitement to learn new tools as they become needed  
Physical Requirements
  • Sitting using near vision use for reading and computer use for extended periods of time
  • Lifting (approximately 20 to 30 pounds), bending, and other physical exertion
Additional Information
This position is approved as a term appointment with an end date of 6/30/23. There is a possibility of renewal/extension.

During the current period of COVID-19 related restrictions, this position may start as a remote position with the transition to onsite at HBS campus in Boston, MA when the office reopens.
