The Online General Education Department is seeking highly qualified candidates for adjunct faculty positions to join our current dynamic faculty who are utilizing the engaged practitioner model to facilitate our sociology undergraduate courses. We offer a wide range of undergraduate courses that prepare our undergraduate students for sought-after careers in psychology as well as for a seamless transition into our graduate program upon completion of their Bachelor's degree.
Online courses at TCSPP are taught through the Canvas learning management system. Before teaching, all new adjunct faculty members in Online-Blended Programs will participate in our 7-week Teaching Online Pedagogy and Standards (TOPS) course, which covers best practices and new developments in online teaching and learning. Additionally, the faculty members will participate in ongoing faculty development to enhance practices and skills to support the general education student population.
Engage students in the General Education curriculum through discussion and assignments as outlined in the course syllabi. Provide students with substantive feedback and respond to student questions/concerns in a timely manner. Offer course appropriate supplemental material(s) as needed. Offer a minimum of two (2) synchronous learning opportunity to students each term through the zoom platform. Attend departmental meetings and events such as undergraduate program virtual town hall meetings at least once during the teaching term.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engage students using a paired skills approach to teach sociology.
- Interact with students from culturally diverse backgrounds to help make them active participants of the learning process.
- Participate in discussion board activities and return graded assignments within the department prescribed timelines.
- Provide instruction, activities, assignments, and assessments to adequately cover all Student Learning Objectives for the specific course(s) taught.
- Use teaching methods that emphasize application, cooperation, and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become independent learners with higher-order thinking skills.
- Organize and explain content using methods which are appropriate to students in an online setting.
- Deliver instructive feedback which inspires students through suggestions to improve their ability to demonstrate knowledge of the program learning objectives.
- Creatively use tools such as (Jing, Screencast-o-matic, Panopto, etc) to engage the community of learners fostering a higher level of engagement with each other.
- Willingness to participate in outreach efforts (phone calls, video conferences, etc) to aid with increasing student retention.
- Master's degree in sociology with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate studies required from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
- Consideration will be made for a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning with an identified minor in sociology.
- Candidate must be an enthusiastic educator.
- Experience teaching general education courses to non-traditional students.
- Experience teaching via the online platform.
- Experience teaching new or returning college students.
