One Year Anniversary of HigherEdMilitary

This spring marks one year since HigherEdJobs launched HigherEdMilitary with the mission of fostering a support community for military-affiliated professionals in higher education.
Our networked community consists of administrators supporting military-connected students, student veterans, faculty teaching military-affiliated individuals, military-dependents working in higher education, and many more who are passionate about our mission. We thank each one of you for your contributions and teachings over the past year.
In the first year, HigherEdMilitary published 39 original articles and worked with 19 writers from 18 different institutions and organizations. Each have shared a variety of perspectives and represent an array of professions, institution types, and locations.
HigherEdMilitary has been immersed in the military-connected community at the 2021 Texas Veterans Higher Education Symposium, 2021 Veterans Symposium at The University of Chicago, the AVECO Annual Conference (and mini conferences), the NASPA Symposium on Military-Connected Students, and the 2022 Annual Symposium at University of North Georgia.
After several requests for more camaraderie and networking opportunities from military-affiliated higher education professionals, HigherEdMilitary now hosts a free monthly informal virtual networking hour called 'Careers and Coffee.' This event invites all military-affiliated professionals in higher education to share best practices, work through challenges, and network with other like-minded professionals across the country. We hope to adapt this event to better serve your needs and we welcome your feedback. Let us know how we can continue to format this event for you. Our next Careers and Coffee meeting is May 25 at 11:00CT/12:00ET. You can also join the HigherEdMilitary LinkedIn Group for reminders and other news.
In March of 2022, HigherEdMilitary announced the HigherEdMilitary Fellowship for graduate and undergraduate students interested in writing on military-affiliated issues and topics in higher education. Our 2022 fellows include Qunnette McCoy, Edmund Kennedy, Regan Sweeney, and Danica Spriggs. We look forward to their contributions to the HigherEdMilitary editorial voice and are honored to welcome them to the team.
As we head into year two, please let us know how we can continue to serve the military-affiliated community in higher education. What opportunities would you like to see? What articles do you want to read? Where can we go from here? Let us know at content@higheredmilitary.com.
Thank you for an incredible year. We look forward to many more.
