Military friendly initiatives have continued to boom across industries over the last decade, and higher education is no exception. Much of this boom is in recognition of how military-affiliated populations are intrinsically a part of, and add to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Promoting that military-affiliated professionals as well as students be included in higher education DEI agendas is imperative.
HigherEdMilitary (HEM) serves military-affiliated higher education professionals and those supporting military-affiliated students on campus through the sharing of resources, information, and ideas. Almost every month, HEM hosts “Careers & Coffee”, bringing together a network of higher education professionals from across the country to discuss topics affecting military-affiliated students, faculty, staff, and administrators. HEM’s community of professionals represents the experiences of campuses of all different sizes, locations, degree offerings, as well as institutional and community investment.
It is evident from HEM’s Careers & Coffee discussions that there is a need for information on how to advocate for continued development and investment in programs supporting the military community in higher education…
Starting January 2024 HigherEdMilitary is addressing this need by releasing a Best Practices series covering:
- How to get administration buy-in for initiatives and programming for military-affiliated students and professionals.
- How to develop and support your Veteran Resource Center.
- How to create community partnerships to aid campus-based programs for military-affiliated populations.
