Howard University's Office of Military and Veterans Services Begins New Chapter in Commitment to Military-Connected Students

"…OMVS is experiencing a renaissance of sorts. In October, OMVS received a $580,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education, funds that will be used to support mental health services, mindfulness programs and academic supports for veterans and military-connected students. Additionally, OMVS has recently opened its Military-Connected Student Lounge, a space where the roughly 500 veterans and military-connected students enrolled at the University can visit to unwind."

"…the SVC has established itself and the veteran community as an integral part of FSU, with more than 20,000 military-connected students served and counting."

 

ACE News Brief: Military Learners Are Diverse, Face Unique Challenges

"One major conclusion drawn from the data is that no two military learners are alike-more than 50 percent identify as students of color; the average age when starting postsecondary education is 23 years; and 32 percent are first-generation college students."
