SUNY Cortland proudly welcomes veterans after their service duties conclude, through both education and employment. Since the end of World War II, when thousands of returning soldiers supported by the GI Bill® filled classrooms of what was then a state teacher's college, Cortland has sought to recruit hard-working, service-oriented veterans to teach and learn among its students, faculty and staff. Members of the military discover many benefits as SUNY Cortland employees - not just a place to work, but somewhere to build a rewarding career.

Among its many institutional accolades, SUNY Cortland has ranked as high as 27th nationally among the Best Colleges for Veterans by U.S. News in recent years. The university also was previously named a military friendly campus by rankings websites aimed at helping former service members earn employment and a college education. Most recently, SUNY Cortland joined the SUNY Military Tuition Rate Program, which looks to close tuition gaps for anyone on active duty or in the National Guard or Reserves. The university also offers wide-ranging opportunities for civilian careers.
