Author Biography

David Keefe is the Director of Military and Veteran Community Engagement at Columbia University’s Center for Veteran Transition and Integration, where he leads initiatives that strengthen institutional capacity to support veteran and military-connected students and communities.

An educator, researcher, artist, and aspiring anthropologist, Keefe has worked with communities of veterans in higher education and nonprofit settings since 2011. His work focuses on how community engagement and cultural participation through narrative practice, storytelling, and the arts can help people and institutions better understand lived experience and develop more effective systems of support.

From 2001 to 2009, Sergeant Keefe served in the United States Marine Corps infantry as a Light Armored Reconnaissance Scout, including a 2006 to 2007 deployment to Iraq on the Euphrates River as a Riverine Scout.
