Dr. Sarita Pettus-Wakefield

Dr. Sarita Pettus-Wakefield has nearly 20 years of experience in K-16, the last 7 of which have been in higher education in the community college and university setting. She holds a Doctorate of Education in Curriculum & Instruction in Instructional Technology and Master’s of Education in Educational Technology. She teaches courses on student success in higher education as well as Education Intervention Specialist courses for aspiring teachers on how to reach ‘at-risk’ students. She enjoys researching best practices for instructors and faculty for how to support veterans and military families in higher education. She is a caregiver and wife to a post 9/11 100% disabled veteran and has also served a caregiver support group leader for Operation Homefront since 2013.

It's time job applications in higher education go beyond asking for only veteran status. Job applications should also inquire about other military affiliations to better serve military families.
